Rising Damp Identification & Treatment

At Chemfree, we take a careful and considered approach to the identification and treatment of rising damp, recognising that dampness within a property can have a number of different causes and that accurate diagnosis is essential before any remedial work is recommended.
Rising damp occurs when moisture from the ground is drawn upwards through porous masonry by capillary action, but similar symptoms can also be caused by penetrating damp, condensation, plumbing defects, high external ground levels, bridged damp-proof courses or other building defects.
Our inspections therefore focus on identifying the actual source and extent of the dampness before recommending a treatment.
Where a damp-proof course is absent, defective or otherwise unable to control rising moisture, a chemical injection damp-proof course may be an appropriate and economical solution. Depending on the construction and circumstances of the property, other remedial measures may include removing or reducing bridging, addressing external defects, improving ventilation, repairing
affected areas, installing appropriate tanking or waterproofing systems, or using suitable salt-resistant
plastering and finishing systems where existing plaster has become contaminated. The treatment we
recommend will always be based on what we actually identify during our inspection rather than applying
a standard one-size-fits-all solution.
At Chemfree, we believe effective damp treatment does not mean using more chemicals or materials than
necessary. Unlike an approach where chemical injection, extensive replastering or tanking may be
recommended as a matter of course, we aim to use proportionate, targeted treatments that address the
identified cause while minimising unnecessary disruption, material use and chemical exposure.
Where chemical DPC injection is appropriate, we use the required treatment method and quantity for the
particular wall construction and affected area, rather than unnecessarily treating unaffected areas.
Where tanking or other waterproofing measures are genuinely required, these will be considered as part of
the overall solution rather than automatically included.
Our objective is to provide a high-quality, lasting remedial service while keeping unnecessary chemical and material use to a minimum. Combined with our commitment to careful workmanship, clear explanations and highly competitive pricing, Chemfree offers customers a practical, honest and cost-conscious approach to damp treatment—addressing the problem identified rather than simply selling a predetermined package of works.
